who knew!?

i also just learned, from the nature adventure camp leaders (The Girls are at nature adventure camp this week) that the only place in the world venus fly traps grow wild is in north carolina - specifically within a hundred miles of wilmington! and they are an endangered plant! and further research reveals they are an herb... an herb, people!

who knew!?

One of the biologists that I worked with at U.K. was an expert in carnivorous plants. It turns out that there's hundreds of species of plants that eat things (mostly bugs). And yes, the Venus flytrap in a North Carolina specialty. For more on the subject, check out the Botany Society of America's carnivorous plant site. It's very good. And lots of pictures!
